Birdland

  1. We are avid watchers on the birds on our feeders too and just this morning captured a woodpecker :-)
    What is the red bird you have captured.

  2. Annie, that is a Cardinal. This is a male. The female is brownish to rust colored. Pretty common in our area. It is the mascot for our highscool football team.
    We have several species of wood peckers here. They usually run all the other birds away from the feeders. Even the smaller wood peckers do this.

    1. shoots off to look up a Cardinal never heard of one, first time we have had a woodpecker on the feeder but he/she was very sociable and all theother birds stayed, just been out to fill our feeders up again today.

  3. The small bird with the reddish coloring in the top picture is a 'purple finch'.
